Serves students with the most severe emotional /behavioral disorders (requires a diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance)
Groups of 4 or more (8-10 is optimal)
Intensive therapeutic skills and/or psychotherapy services with focus on stabilizing mental health status while improving daily living and interpersonal skills
Usually daily services, intensity and duration based on student needs.
Funding sources can include Medical Assistance, insurance, special education, school district, county or collaborative
Staff must be qualified mental health practitioners and aides working under clinical supervision of a mental health professional.

Serves students with emotional/ behavioral problems (requires a diagnosis of emotional disturbance or severe emotional disturbance)
1:1, family or small groups
Skills training emphasis (individual family or group skills training, including social skills, daily living skills, family relationship and interpersonal skills)
Flexible units of time
Funding sources can include MA and MnCare, special education, school district, county or collaborative
Staff must be qualified mental health practitioners and aides working under clinical supervision of a mental health professional.

Primarily school based with some home and community activities
Serves students who are at risk of referral for formal special education evaluation and /or related services
1:1, family, small groups, classroom
Activities that assist identified students to progress in math, reading, writing and/or social adjustment (ex: problem-solving, social skills, behavioral interventions, parent involvement)
Flexible periods of service based on school preferences
Funding sources can include Special Education Alternative Delivery grants (MS 125A.50), school district, county or collaborative
Staff must be eligible for licensure by MN Department of Education, State Board of Social Work or another professional board. |
School-based
Serves students with a wide range of mental health needs from the general student population (requires a diagnosis for third-party payments)
1:1 and family
Individual, group and family psychotherapy
Frequency and duration of services depends on the student’s need
Funding sources can include MA, MNCare, private insurance, and school district or collaborative funds for families with no coverage
Staff must be licensed mental health professionals or qualified mental health practitioners under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional. |
